As a lifelong Dearborn resident and first-generation Yemeni American, Othman Alaansi understands our community's strength lies in its diversity – of cultures and opinions. That's why his 2025 City Council campaign blends fresh, progressive ideas with common-sense conservative principles, tailored to Dearborn's unique needs. Othman's platform centers on three core pillars – Cleaner Dearborn, Safer Dearborn, and Affordable Dearborn – each focused on improving quality of life without raising taxes. Together, these pillars form a vision of a city that is cleaner, safer, and more affordable for every resident.

  • Efficient City Services: Ensure timely trash pickup, street sweeping, and park maintenance by optimizing city services and holding departments accountable.
  • Community Clean-Up Initiatives: Foster a culture of cleanliness and pride through community involvement, organizing neighborhood clean-up days and volunteer drives.
  • Blight Enforcement & Beautification: Crack down on illegal dumping, graffiti, and blighted properties while promoting initiatives to beautify public spaces.
  • Pest Control and Public Health: Address rodent infestations and ensure cleaner, safer neighborhoods through proactive measures and education.

About Othman Alaansi

Othman Alaansi is a lifelong Dearborn resident, a proud graduate of the University of Michigan–Dearborn in Computer Science, and a seasoned professional in the tech industry. He honed his innovative problem-solving and leadership skills at General Motors and Infinite Electronics, experience that has instilled in him a strong commitment to efficiency and innovation. Now, as a forward-thinking yet pragmatic candidate for City Council, Othman is dedicated to modernizing Dearborn without raising taxes – ensuring every dollar is spent wisely and every resident's voice is heard. His blend of hometown dedication and technological expertise makes him uniquely prepared to serve our community in a way that is both inspirational and grounded in real-world know-how.

Dearborn Roots and Tech Expertise

Born and raised in Dearborn, Othman understands our city's history and the values of its people. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan–Dearborn (graduating with University Honors and a Senior Design Day Award), and chose to build his career here at home. At General Motors and later at Infinite Electronics, Othman led teams in improving safety protocols, streamlining operations, and implementing modern technological solutions to complex problems. These experiences have made him a tech-savvy leader who knows how to use innovation to make systems work better. Othman plans to bring this expertise to City Hall – using data-driven decisions and new technology to cut red tape and upgrade city services, all while being fiscally responsible. He combines an engineer's pragmatism with a community member's heart, ensuring that progress for Dearborn is both smart and sustainable.

Community Leadership and Service

Othman has deep roots in community service across Dearborn. He has volunteered on local campaigns – from helping a Dearborn Public Schools Board candidate to assisting a City Council run – providing hands-on support with social media and grassroots outreach. His commitment to the community extends to working closely with local Islamic institutions: Othman is actively involved with organizations such as the Islamic Center of Detroit, Masjid Al-Huda, and the American Moslem Society, where he's mentored youth, helped organize events, and supported fundraising drives. These efforts reflect his dedication to giving back through faith-based and civic initiatives alike.

A Vision for Dearborn's Future

Othman's campaign is centered on a clear, forward-thinking vision for Dearborn's future. He believes in tackling the issues that matter most to residents in every part of our city, East and West, through a focus on four key priorities:

  • Fiscal Efficiency: Manage the city's finances as carefully as a family budget, eliminating waste and leveraging state, federal, and private grants to improve services without raising taxes.
  • Public Safety: Invest in our police, firefighters, and first responders so they have the latest training, tools, and technology to protect our community.
  • Clean Neighborhoods: Keep Dearborn's neighborhoods clean, healthy, and livable by enforcing city ordinances against blight and pollution.
